Fall 2012 Next Step Workshops

MCPS Transition Services will host a series of Next Step Parent Workshops over the next two months. These workshops pertain to transition planning.

October 2, 7-9 pm: Adult Services—This meeting will cover topics such as the role of MCPS in the Transitioning Youth Initiative (TYI) process, the role of Community Support Network in the TYI process, the role of the Developmental Disabilities Administration in the TYI process, making the most of your agency visit, adult service provider delivery models, the DDA application process and eligibility determination, and APS healthcare. This workshop will take place at Earle B. Wood Middle School's cafeteria (14615 Bauer Drive) in Rockville.

October 16, 7-9 pm: Montgomery College Night—This workshop is intended for families of students with IEPs aged 14-21 who are planning to attend community college, earn an Associate's Degree, transfer to a four-year college or university, enter the job market, or enhance life through enrichment experiences upon exiting high school. The workshop will include presentations from Montgomery College faculty. This workshop will take place at Earle B. Wood Middle School's cafeteria (14615 Bauer Drive) in Rockville.

November 13, 7-9 pm: Postsecondary Education—This workshop will include presentations about connecting with disability services at the college level, postsecondary education facts you should know, making it on your own, and postsecondary options for students with intellectual disabilities. This workshop will take place at Earle B. Wood Middle School's cafeteria (14615 Bauer Drive) in Rockville.

November 28, 7-9 pm: Special Topics Night—This workshop will cover special topics such as guardianship and healthcare planning, social security income (SSI) information, and an introduction to transition services in MCPS. This workshop will take place at Earle B. Wood Middle School's cafeteria (14615 Bauer Drive) in Rockville.
