The Partnership for Extraordinary Minds will be hosting a number of special events this fall, including workshops, speaker meetings, and a family fun day. More information is below.
September 24, 7-9 pm: Parent Workshop: Emotional Regulation Tools: Make-and-Take—Helping our children understand their emotions is the first step in teaching them how to stay calm and regulate themselves in challenging environments. xMinds president, Staci Daddona, will lead this workshop to explain visual tools that can be used with children to help them identify emotions and encourage self regulation. Pre-registration is helpful to make sure there are materials for everyone. To register, call 301-444-5225 or email@example.com. The workshop is free for xMinds members and $10 for nonmembers. There is an additional $5 materials fee for both members and nonmembers. This workshop will take place at Rockville Memorial Library (21 Maryland Avenue) in Rockville.
October 6, 2:30-5:30 pm: Extraordinary Family Fun Day!—Attend the first family fun day to connect with other families in Montgomery County with children on the autism spectrum in a welcoming, fun atmosphere with a moon bounce, art activity (decorate a mask), and table games for all ages. This event is rain or shine. Free for xMinds members and $5 per child for nonmembers. The Family Fun Day will take place at the Quince Orchard Valley Park Activity Building (12015 Suffolk Terrace) in Gaithersburg.
October 17, 7-9 pm: Speaker Meeting: Neuropsych Evaluations 101—Dr. Taruna Ahluvalia, a pediatric neuropsychologist, will speak about evaluations. No registration is required. November 13, 7-9 pm: Speaker Meeting: Meltdowns vs. Tantrums: What is the Difference?—Dr. Laura Anthony, who specializes in the assessment and treatment of children and teens with ASDs, will speak at this meeting.
