Alvord, Baker & Associates and the Weinfeld Education Group will present a 2-workshop series by Peter F. Gerhardt, Ed.D., the founding chair of the Organization for Autism Research on September 20 and 21.
Both workshops will take place at the Universities at Shady Grove, Building II (9630 Gudelsky Drive) in Rockville. Although all are welcome to attend, both workshops are intended for professionals.
September 20, 7:30-9 pm: Evidence Based Practice and Transitioning for Adolescents and Adults with ASD: Implications for Quality of Life— Despite a rapidly growing body of knowledge regarding effective behavioral analytic intervention with school age children with autism, adult outcome studies indicate that the majority of individuals graduate to lives of limited independence and community engagement. This presentation will provide a brief overview of some of the more relevant challenges to effective intervention with older individuals and offer recommendations toward improving outcomes utilizing interventions based upon the principles of applied behavior analysis. September 21, 9 am-12:15 pm: Sexuality and Sexuality Education for Individuals with ASDs—Individuals on the autism spectrum are sexual beings. However, individual interest in sex or in developing an intimate sexual relationship with another person varies widely across (and within) individuals at all ability levels. This workshop will provide a brief overview of issues associated with sexuality education and the role behavior analysis can play in this complex important area. Find prices and register online.
